When you want a plot that pulls deer in during hunting season, fall food plot seed with a variety of grains, peas and clovers is hard to beat. Tecomate Max-Attract deer and turkey food plot seed combines forage oats, triticale, Nutrigreen winter peas, perennial and annual clovers and chicory in one bag. Tecomate notes it attracts deer about 20 days after planting.
What is in Max-Attract?
Max-Attract is formulated for maximum fall attraction, with nutrition that carries into spring and early summer. Each part of the blend has a job:
- Forage oats and triticale: high in soluble sugars, providing bucks with energy during the rut
- Nutrigreen winter peas: an upgrade from the old Austrian winter pea, with better production and palatability
- Annual clovers: establish quickly and help bucks recover from the stress of the rut
- Perennial clovers and chicory: attraction plus nutrition, coated with Tecomate's Yellow Jacket seed coating containing Zeba

How Max-Attract fits into your food plot plan
Tecomate suggests a few ways to use Max-Attract. To increase attraction, plant half of a large food plot with Max-Attract and the other half with Tecomate Greenfield, or plant them side by side in two smaller plots. In the South, Max-Attract is often rotated with summer annuals like Lablab Plus. In the Northeast and Midwest, it is often paired with Monster Mix while a perennial clover and chicory plot is being established.
Max-Attract comes in 20 lb and 40 lb bags. You can choose your Max-Attract bag size on the product page.
How to plant Max-Attract
- Planting time: all zones, fall only
- Seeding rate: 20 lbs plants 1/2 acre; 40 lbs plants 1 acre
- Planting depth: 1/8 to 1/4 inch
- Lime and fertilizer: lime if pH is below 5.8, and fertilize with a balanced 13-13-13 at 200 to 300 lbs per acre
- Inoculant: inoculating with cowpea inoculant will improve nitrogen fixation
Plant in a sunny location that has been disked to a clean, level and firm seedbed. An Impact Implements ATV/UTV disc plow / harrow is useful for that step. You can no-till drill, cultivate and broadcast, or cultivate and drill. When broadcasting, cover the seed by dragging or cultipacking, and plant in good moisture. Avoid planting too deep.
Tips for fall plots
- Time your planting so there is soil moisture; fall plots planted into dry dirt often stall.
- Get a soil test early so you have lime and fertilizer on hand when planting time comes.
- Use the 40 lb bag for a full acre, or split a larger field between Max-Attract and Greenfield as Tecomate suggests.
- Place fall plots where you can reach a stand without crossing the plot, so deer stay comfortable using it in daylight.
- If you plant in spring in northern zones, Tecomate recommends mowing in late summer and fertilizing in late August or early September.
