Brassica Banquet — Deer Food Plot Seed

Brassica Banquet: Brassica Food Plot Seed for Late-Season Deer

Brassicas give deer leafy forage in the fall and sugary bulbs to dig into once the weather turns cold. Tecomate Brassica Banquet deer food plot seed is a select blend of forage and bulb-producing brassicas built for peak attraction during hunting season. If you are planning a late-season plot, brassica food plot seed like this is a simple place to start.

What is Brassica Banquet?

Brassica Banquet is a blend of select forage and bulb-producing brassica seed. It delivers two things in one plot: high-protein leafy forage that deer begin feeding on as soon as it sprouts, and big high-sugar bulbs that deer use during the late season. Tecomate notes it grows well in both northern and southern climates and is ideal for any size highly grazed plot.

Key features of this brassica food plot seed

  • Protein content: 20% to 24%
  • Establishes quickly and grows fast
  • High-sugar bulbs for late-season attraction
  • Essential nutrition throughout the winter
  • Grows in northern and southern climates
  • Works alone or blended with most Tecomate fall food plots

Using brassicas in a fall food plot

Brassica Banquet is great as a standalone plot, but Tecomate notes it blends well with almost any Tecomate fall planting. Many hunters pair brassicas with a grain and clover blend such as Tecomate Max-Attract to give deer variety from early bow season through late season. If you want even more bulb tonnage, Tecomate Turbo Turnip is another fall option in the same lineup.

Brassica Banquet comes in a 3 lb Standside Series bag. You can view Brassica Banquet on the product page for full details.

How to plant Brassica Banquet

Tecomate's planting specs:

  • Planting time: all zones, fall only
  • Seeding rate: 3 lbs plants 1/2 acre
  • Planting depth: 1/8 to 1/4 inch

Start with a soil test so you know what lime and fertilizer your plot needs, and apply according to those results. Choose a sunny spot, then work the ground into a clean, smooth seedbed. An Impact Implements ATV/UTV disc plow / harrow breaks up sod and works in lime and fertilizer.

Brassica seed is very small, and the 1/8 to 1/4 inch planting depth means it is easy to plant too deep. Broadcast evenly, then press the seed into the soil with an Impact Implements cultipacker with weight tray instead of disking it under. Small seed also makes it easy to over-seed, so calibrate your spreader and stick to the recommended rate; crowded brassicas tend to produce smaller bulbs.

Tips for late-season brassica plots

  • Plant into good moisture so the small seed germinates quickly.
  • Plan plot size around deer numbers. Tecomate built this blend for highly grazed plots, but very small plots in high-density areas can still be wiped out early.
  • Think about where you will hunt in December and January, and put brassicas close to cover and bedding areas.
  • Keep brassicas out of the same spot year after year where possible, and rotate with other crops.
