Laying off rows, opening furrows and digging potatoes go much faster with a single-row furrower. The Impact Implements Middle Buster is an ATV middle buster and sub-soiler built for tough, compacted soil, and it attaches to your ATV, UTV or garden tractor with a single pin.
What the Impact Implements middle buster is
This single-row cutting furrower (SKU IP4490_BK) is used for potato plowing, laying off rows, opening furrows, digging trenches for water lines and more. Its subsoil point cuts sod and loosens soil for improved drainage and better crop growth. A rigid drop shank keeps it stable in the ground.

- Subsoil point that cuts sod and loosens soil
- Easy one-pin mounting with the included pin

What it fits
The Impact Implements middle buster is compatible with ATVs, UTVs, side-by-sides, garden tractors and lawn tractors. On an ATV or UTV, it pins to the Impact Implements manual One-Point Lift System or the Impact Implements HD hydraulic One-Point Lift System. If your machine does not have a factory receiver, you will need to install a 2" hitch receiver (not included).
How to install and use it
From the manufacturer's installation steps:
- Install a 2" hitch receiver on your ATV/UTV/SxS if you do not have a factory receiver.
- Attach the middle buster to the manual or hydraulic lift, CAT-0 3-point hitch or sleeve hitch using the included single pin.
- Make sure all implements are securely attached before use.
- Drive to the work area and begin digging.
- After use, detach the middle buster and store it in a safe, dry place.
Practical tips: mark your rows with stakes or string before you start so lines stay straight, and make a shallow first pass in hard ground before going deeper. Keep an eye out for buried lines, rocks and roots when trenching. Work at a steady, slow speed; a single shank pulls more evenly that way and is less likely to jump out of the ground.
Ground conditions matter too. Soil that is slightly moist turns cleanly, while very wet clay smears and very dry ground can be hard to penetrate. If the point won't stay in on the first pass, lower it gradually with your lift instead of forcing it.
Middle buster uses in gardens and food plots
In the garden, the middle buster opens rows for planting and lifts potatoes at harvest. Around the property, it can cut shallow trenches for water lines. In food plots, it can help open compacted ground before discing. Follow up with the Impact Implements disc plow / harrow to break up clods, then the Impact Implements cultivator to finish the seed bed. See every attachment in our Impact Implements collection, and if you are planting for deer, browse our food plot seed collection.
